NEW LENOX CHILDRENS MUSEUM

Given only the educational goals of the facility, L3DFX concepted and designed the entirety of the KidsWork Children's Museum in New Lenox.

All interactives are geared towards children ages 5-10, each with intended learning goals- including world cultures, science, technology, mathematics, and art.

DEFINE.

All builds were permanent installations to the facility, needed to meet accessibility requirements for the intended age groups, and hit the learning objectives provided by the client.  

My contributions to this project included the production design of the world cultures "Holiday Wall",   Construction Zone, Spotlight Stage, and the mechanic fuel pump. 
 

IDEATE.

Design considerations included:

  • Build co-operation and install on site

  • Typical wear and tear

  • Maintaining project budget

  • Repairability of build

  • ADA access

  • Intended user interaction

  • Finishes and Colors

DESIGN.

Design strategy throughout the museum varied widely. 
My builds primarily utilized plywood with lumber frames, acrylic signage, and cnc milled foam with hardcoat.

BUILD.

Design Processes Included:
 

  • CAD Modeling (Rhino 3D

  • Assembly Design

  • Export for CNC Machining 

  • Production Drawings for Welding, Carpentry, and Fabrication builds.
