STEELCASE POWER PUCK

During my internship, I was tasked with developing a power solution that fits multiple sizes and lines of Steelcase conference tables. I focused on an equally accessible, visually recessed and agnostic solution.

ROLE/
Co-Op Design Intern

EMPLOYER/

DATE
AUG 2023- DEC 2023

My team's goal was to produce a power solution within varying contexts, including conference tables, hybrid meeting tables, personal work stations, and smaller collaborative spaces.

Design considerations included:

  • Project budget and manufacturing costs/ processes

  • Intended user interaction

  • Aesthetic applicability into a variety of spaces. Agnostic and unobtrusive.

  •  Existing power solutions in Steelcase lines

  • Adaptability to various power needs (input type, voltage, etc.)

  • Equally accessible to users regardless of position of access.

The final product design features a puck shaped power strip, with a recessed lip surrounding the object. This lip allows the power puck to be pulled/ picked up from any position within reach distance.

The casing was sized to support a variety of internal hardware applications- allowing the housing to support various outlet types.

Design Processes Included:

  • CAD Modeling (Fusion 360, Sketchup)

  •  Assembly Design

  • Export for CNC Machining
